On 20 May, BritCham Shanghai successfully held the inaugural Great British Day Out event at Wellington College International Shanghai.
This year, the Virgin Atlantic Great British Day Out welcomed nearly 1,500 participants and over 60 booth stakeholders joining from BritCham Shanghai members, community friends and partners. Proudly presented by BritCham Shanghai, the British Day was a one-day outdoor event celebrating British culture and offering participants of all nationalities a relaxing day with family and friends to enjoy fun activities, music, prizes and great food and drink.
Starting with the angelic singing by a children’s choir, we were delighted to host Chris Wood, British Consul-General Shanghai, and Stuart Dunn, Executive Director of BritCham Shanghai for welcome remarks.
Energetic band performances, the British Day (Football) Cup, traditional Scottish bagpipes, on-stage science & technology performances, and Girl Scouts’ environmental protection-themed performance brought countless laughs and wonderful moments to participants of all ages. British food and beverage, picnic and afternoon tea etiquette experience, sports programmes, a variety of interactive games, pet adoption and rounds of lucky draws kept everyone busy throughout the day.
One of the most notable activities was the Pub Quiz by Ned Kelly, featuring questions on British culture and fun facts. The winning team won the TOP Prize of two ‘Shanghai to London round trip Premium Class’ tickets sponsored by Virgin Atlantic.
The 2023 British Day is supported by Virgin Atlantic (Title Sponsor), Fortnum & Mason (Platinum Sponsor), Viabiotics (Platinum Sponsor), Nord Anglia Education (Gold Sponsor), Wellington College International Shanghai (Gold & Venue Sponsor), JWDK (Creative Sponsor), as well as many in-kind sponsors and partners. In the mean time, we would like to share our heartfelt thanks to all participants and volunteers for joining and supporting us on the day, making this event a great success and shared memory to everyone.
We look forward to seeing you all again at next year’s British Day!
