On Saturday, 19 October, BritCham Shanghai proudly hosted its inaugural Great British Sports Day at the campuses of Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi and Dehong Shanghai.
The event celebrated not only sporting excellence but also inclusivity and the spirit of friendly competition within the business community.
Following a sudden drop in temperature and gusty winds beginning the night before, the weather on the day of the event was challenging. Rain fell from morning until midday, and although the rain ceased in the afternoon, the temperatures remained quite low and were accompanied by strong winds. Despite these unfavourable conditions, the enthusiasm and passion of the participants and spectators were unwavering, showcasing their determination to enjoy the day’s activities.
Attendees gathered to enjoy a wide range of activities. The 7-a-side football tournament proved to be a crowd favourite, fostering high-energy competition and camaraderie among the teams. Other competitive sports, including badminton, also saw strong participation. The booth area, buzzing with excitement, featured interactive games and experiences for all ages, including VR Rolling experience and interactive boxing equipment, which drew significant interest from visitors keen to try these unique activities.
Another standout feature of the day was the Open Track of the F1 in Schools Season 1 Competition, held indoors during the afternoon. Launched by BritCham Shanghai in early 2024, this innovative programme was introduced to Shanghai’s international business community and has quickly garnered attention. As a globally recognised STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) initiative, F1 in Schools offers participants a hands-on insight into what it takes to be an engineer, business leader, or designer. Attendees were captivated as students and participants designed and raced their own compressed air-powered Formula 1 miniature cars, showcasing a mix of creativity, technical expertise, and competitive spirit.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to
and our in-kind sponsors Abacare, Jiahui Health, United Family Healthcare, Asian Tigers, Crown Relocations, as well as BE Education, TSK Dental, and many more booth owners, as well as all the participating teams, athletes, and attendees who made this day such a success.
