This journey began with our rebranding and strategy to create a modern, diverse, and inclusive Chamber with a vision of Let’s Connect.”
Located in the heart of the West Nanjing Road commercial area at the Oriental Centre, the new space serves as a central hub, continuing the Chamber’s 109-year legacy and fostering a vibrant business community.
Kirsten Johnson, Chair of BritCham Shanghai, highlighted the Chamber’s commitment to innovation: “As the oldest foreign Chamber in China mainland, we deeply respect our rich legacy while continuously striving to innovate and stay abreast of emerging trends. In 2021, we undertook a revolutionary rebranding, introducing the three pillars of Advocacy, Knowledge, and Community. This rebranding effort underscores our commitment to evolving and meeting the dynamic needs of our members in today’s business environment.”
The brand-new office offers BritCham Shanghai a modern and high-quality work environment, accommodating a larger team and providing multifunctional spaces for events and meetings, positioning it a unique hub for the UK-China business community in central downtown of Shanghai.
“I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to BritCham Shanghai on the opening of their new office.” said Matt Burney, CMG, British Consul-General, Shanghai. “Over the past decades, BritCham Shanghai has played an instrumental role in supporting UK businesses in Shanghai. It drives prosperity, creates jobs and fosters stronger UK-China relationship. In 2023, the bilateral trade between the UK and China reached over £90 billion. The flourishing trade relationship is a testament to the business-to-business and people-to-people linked between the Uk and China.”
ZHU Yi, Vice Chairwoman, Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, shared her best wishes in the letter of congratulations to the Chamber, “At present, Shanghai is deepening high-level reform and opening up, and promoting high-quality development. We will continue to optimise corporate services and create a market-oriented, rule-by-law, and internationalised first-class business environment. The foreign-funded enterprises located in Shanghai will embrace the international market, enjoy more open policies, and win better opportunities for development. Therefore, we hope to work closely with BritCham Shanghai and our British business community to deepen the trade and investment relations between our two sides.”
The ceremony also featured the official ribbon-cutting and the unveiling of the platinum wall.
On this significant occasion, BritCham Shanghai is delighted to present the following achievements we have accomplished in 2023 and 2024, with the dedicated support of our members and partners:
It is worth mentioning that our new office also proudly features the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse, showcasing member successes and stories with display corners highlighting members’ products and services. This vibrant hub will serve as a focal point where innovation meets collaboration.
We cordially invite all members and partners to utilise our event spaces and collaborate with the Chamber on events, committees, and other initiatives. Over the coming months, the Chamber will host a series of events, from Committee knowledge sharing sessions to advocacy roundtables to introduce our members and partners to the new spaces and our united community.
BritCham Shanghai looks forward to creating more opportunities and successes for our members and the broader business community in Shanghai and beyond.
