In the month of August, we mark a six-month milestone with the presence of Stuart Dunn, Executive Director of the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai (BritCham Shanghai). Stuart will lead the Chamber’s ambitions which include: increasing the support and impact of the Chamber across East China, continuing to grow and promote the ESG agenda both in China and globally, increasing the depth & variety of membership including like-minded international and local companies, and leading on promoting the opportunities in East China to UK business community.
Stuart Dunn
Executive Director, BritCham Shanghai
Stuart Dunn stands as a seasoned leader, boasting a dynamic career spanning over two decades that encompasses both domestic and international trade, operational expertise, and project management. His journey has seen him hold senior positions within the UK Department for International Trade, Hospitality groups including Shangri-la & Banyan Tree, and a successful hospitality group in Shanghai. Prior to joining BritCham Shanghai, Stuart served as the Head of Agriculture, Food & Drink (Trade) China for the UK Department of International Trade, now known as the UK Department of Business & Trade (DBT), at the British Consulate-General Shanghai. He replaces James Dunn who has emigrated to Canada and continues to advise and support the Chamber network.
“Stuart brought his experience in event management and F&B, to successfully deliver the British Day as the first major event under his leadership,” said Ray Chisnall, Chair of BritCham Shanghai. “His background as an entrepreneur and most recently working in the DBT team in the Shanghai Consulate mean he understands both business and government perspectives. With Stuart and the whole Chamber team, BritCham Shanghai is fantastically positioned to continue being the key organisation representing UK business in China.”
Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Stuart remarked,
“It is a huge honour and privilege to have the opportunity to join the BritCham Shanghai team. Our Chamber combines the heritage and prestige of being China’s oldest international chamber with an unwavering commitment to fostering member and community growth, knowledge sharing and leading on regional and national advocacy.
I will endeavour to continue to sustain and support the team and Chamber to continue to develop and grow as well as look to bring my own experience and style to the organisation. Together with the dedicated team, we have achieved some significant milestones including a 10% of membership growth over the past 6 months; the launch of the Great British Day in May, the Chamber’s Hangzhou outreach, the pilot programme of advocacy roundtables and Industrial White Papers series with DBT and the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC).
As we move forward, we will continue to enhance and expand the Chamber’s ongoing initiatives under our three pillars of Advocacy, Knowledge and Community. Noteworthy upcoming events include the 3rd Sustainability & ESG Summit (12 September), the ESG China Awards 2023 (Gala Dinner on 26 October), and a plethora of captivating British cultural and social gatherings including the Football Tournament (14 October) and the St. Andrew’s Ball (25 November).”
