Once again launched in June 2023 by the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai (BritCham Shanghai), in partnership with AmCham Shanghai, AustCham Shanghai and CanCham Shanghai, the Awards recognise and promote excellence from businesses, organisations and individuals that have made a positive ESG impact in China.
The Gala Ceremony welcomed nearly 200 guests, including representatives from the British Consulate-General Shanghai, the Consulate General of Canada in Shanghai, the U.S. Consulate General Shanghai, East China Provincial/Municipal Representative Offices in Shanghai, Invest Shanghai, Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatisation, Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Awards sponsors, partners, judging panels, finalist companies.
Ted Wan, BritCham Shanghai Vice Chair, said,
“Over the past two years, ESG has been recognised as one of the key initiatives of the Chamber. We are committed to leading companies to better advance sustainable and responsible business practices through peer support, knowledge sharing, and facilitating a more sustainable journey with our members and the wider business community.
The 2nd annual ESG China Awards further promotes pioneers, including companies, organisations and individuals, to actively practice their sustainability and ESG commitments in areas where they can expertly and actively make an impact. ”
ESG China Awards Chair, Board Member of Global Reporting Initiative, Dr Jianzhong Lu said,
“This year has witnessed an extraordinary surge in participation. Compared to the previous year, there has been a substantial increase in the number of applications, with a total of 150 applications across the 10 award categories. Applicants come from 23 different cities and regions across China, representing a wide range of industries. Notably, half of the applicants are foreign companies deeply rooted in China, while the other half are forward-thinking domestic enterprises. Such a wide range of participation reaffirms our shared belief in ESG and sustainability, and our sense of engagement and mission.
We are delighted to see the growing number of companies embracing the ESG transformation and actively implementing sustainable development practices. Regardless of their size, companies are collectively reshaping the path towards a multi-dimensional model. This approach not only accelerates their individual journeys but also fosters a more extensive ecosystem within the community.”
