On 18 February 2025, BritCham Shanghai’s People & Culture Committee hosted an insightful People & Culture Roundtable, focusing on the integration of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and ESG strategies in organisations. The event brought together leaders from various industries to discuss the evolving dynamics of people management, organisational culture, and ESG integration, particularly in the context of China’s unique market landscape.
The discussions, led by Madge Xue, HR Director Greater China at Reckitt and other industry leaders, highlighted the importance of creating inclusive, sustainable work environments that support both individual well-being and organisational success in China’s rapidly evolving market.
The roundtable provided an open forum for participants to contribute a wealth of perspectives and experiences. Together, attendees explored how to make DEI initiatives not only relevant but also sustainable within businesses and organisations in China. A key theme of the discussion was recognising the challenges DEI initiatives face in different parts of the world, while also focusing on innovative ways to navigate these complexities. The attendees also exchanged forward-thinking ideas, such as how younger leaders are managing older team members in a multi-generational workforce, further illustrating the importance of inclusivity across all age groups. It was a stimulating and enriching conversation that provided valuable insights into the intersection of people, culture, and ESG.
Present at the meeting were People & Culture expertise of BritCham Shanghai member companies including Shi Bisset & Associates, Reckitt, Complex Adaptive Leadership Ltd, Jaguar Land Rover China, Aden Group, Rita Malvone Consulting, Octave, Capital Eight and IHG Group.
This People & Culture Roundtable was a fantastic opportunity to delve into the practical application of DEI and ESG strategies. Participants left with a deeper understanding and new ideas of how to foster inclusive and sustainable work environments that drive both organisational success and individual well-being.
