The history of the British Chamber of Shanghai’s founding in 1915 is well documented. Over the past 110 years, our Chamber has stood the test of time and remains as strong today as it was at its inception.
As 20th May marks the Chamber’s official birthday, we are celebrating with an intimate, warm, and festive gathering among friends and family—complete with a birthday cake!
We are honoured to welcome special guests who have been part of BritCham’s long and storied journey. In fact, some of our founding member companies are still with us today.
This celebration will serve as the official launch of our yearlong 110th-anniversary activities. During the event, we will share more details about the exciting plans ahead.
The birthday dinner will follow the style of the 1915 Club Dinner, which gathers the most senior executives within our membership to meet one another and engage in friendly, premium and stimulating conversation. The format of the birthday dinner will be tables of 10 with guests moving tables twice during the evening to maximise the networking opportunity for each guest.

The British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai first launched in China in 1915 as the First World War was escalating. 10 British firms met at the British Consulate-General to discuss how to protect British interests. One week later, the British Chamber of Commerce, Shanghai was established with a total of 60 members and by the end of 1916, its membership had grown to 280. Our story continues today …
