The Best Emerging Talent (B.E.T) Festival is a unique event that brings together and celebrates talented students and professionals from the creative industries in both the UK and China. Organised by the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai Creative Industries and Marketing (CIM) Committee, this festival aims to provide a platform for the most promising and innovative individuals in the creative sectors to showcase their skills, network, and explore new opportunities.

The B.E.T Festival is a celebration of creativity and innovation that will explore the latest trends, developments, and opportunities within the creative industries in both China and the UK. The festival will give participants insights into the latest industry trends and how to grow and develop their careers in the creative sectors through a series of keynote speeches, and networking opportunities.

This year, the BritCham CIM Committee, in collaboration with the Education and SME Committees, is proud to present the Best Emerging Talent Festival 2024 (B.E.T. Festival 2024) on Thursday, 14th November, 2024.

And the theme of this year, Building Successful Careers in Creative Industries – From Graduate to Industry Leader, aims to:

Provide a platform for industry professionals to share insights, experiences, and thought leadership.
Offer professionals and recent graduates a chance to learn from and network with senior industry leaders.
Facilitate broader networking opportunities within the creative industry.

Who should attend?

This event is ideal for recent graduates, aspiring creatives, senior professionals, mid-level managers, and entrepreneurs. It’s an opportunity for senior professionals and managers to gain fresh perspectives, mentor emerging talent, and build valuable connections within the industry.

Nash Luk

Co-founder, Slasssh Studio

With 10+ years of experience in brand and digital marketing, including a successful tenure at Apple and 4A+ agencies, he now starts a creative studio focused on promoting the “slasher” working culture and creative diversity in China.

Ranjit Singh

CEO, Fugumobile

Ranjit Singh is well recognised in the digital and advertising industry in China having been based in Shanghai for over 23 years.

He is the CEO of Fugumobile and has a deep understanding of brand marketing, consumer entertainment and technology gained from over 30 years in the consumer, Internet and telecom industries.

A frequent speaker at industry events (Fudan Univ, Mobile World Congress, to name a few), Ranjit has been advocating the power of digital marketing to a growing audience of digitally aware clients and has executed cutting edge solutions for a large number of blue-chip clients in China and abroad.

Ranjit is also the co-founder of Doris Was Not Meat, an NGO that uses technology to support dog shelters in Asia.

Samuel Jesse

With over 20 years of experience in digital product design and UX – 14 of them spent in China – I’m the Co-Founder of Digital Creative Asia and UX Spot, where l collaborate with some of the world’s most innovative brands. With extensive experience building creative teams and hiring top talent for both our agency and leading clients, I’m passionate about helping creatives successfully navigate their career journeys.

Paul Copeland

Executive Creative Director, The Mill Shanghai

Paul joined The Mill Shanghai in December 2021 after 9 years running regional and global creative accounts for Saatchi & Saatchi in Singapore and Shanghai.

Before moving to Asia, Pau built his career in London learning from some of The World’s best creatives, in agencies including Leo Burnett, Lowe, Fallon, Grey, McCann, BBH and BETC.

This gives him the rare experience of both Eastern and Western cultures, and creative problem solving from both perspectives.

Strong on strategy and ideation Paul has won multiple creative awards in categories from fast food to baby food. A love of film and storytelling has always been in his heart.

Paul also spent 2 years writing and performing stand-up comedy in London to hone his writing and presentations skills. lf you ask him nicely he might tell you a story.

George Pitman

Design Director, Medusa Consulting

George has over 20 years of experience in Advertising and Design. Born in São Paulo, Brazil, moved to Shanghai after 8 years in the Digital Industry, to collaborate with clients such as World Expo, Montblanc, BYD, Huawei, Montblanc, Ubisoft and Acer. He is also the manager of the platforms Designer AA, PechaKucha Night, Bald Society and Last Legends.

Ruohan Nie

Creative Director & Founder, RUOHAN

Ruohan received her Bachelor degree in Fashion Design from Parsons School of Design in 2020. During her undergrad, she also spent her time in Paris and London at Parsons Paris and Central Saint Martins. Ruohan worked and interned at some of the renowned brands, including The Row, Melitta Baumeister, and La Garçonne before the launch of RUOHAN.

Ruohan believes in the power of simplicity and tranquility, and cares about subtleness and details. These beliefs and care play a vital role in her design, which embodies with deliberate fabric, precise tailoring and all visuals the brand presents. She hopes her design can introduce new ways of seeing the world, and bring values and inspirations beyond fashion.

Alex Lin

VP, Regional Merchandising and Product Design APAC & Global Softlines Design, Disney Consumer Products

Alex Lin serves as the APAC Vice President, Regional Merchandising and Product Design at Disney Consumer Products. She is responsible for leading the vision and execution of the merchandising and product design for each of Disney’s franchises in Asia Pacific to ensure the highest quality, consumer focused, trend-right product across licensing and Disney Stores. She leads a team of 100 designers and strategists with expertise in all product categories based in Greater China, Japan, Southeast Asia, MENA, India, and Australia.

Prior to Disney Consumer Products Alex held product leadership roles at Shanghai Disney Resort, Levi’s Brand, and Gap Inc.

Alex holds a BA from the University of California Los Angeles and is an alum of the Chief Product Officer program at Kellogg.
