The Green Future and New Journey for the Rule of Law for the Automotive Industry

Weijun Wang, Secretary-General of Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (Shanghai International Arbitration Center), Vice President of Shanghai Arbitration Association, Vice Chairman of Permanent Forum of China Construction Law (PFCCL). She is listed arbitrator of several arbitration institutions with senior experience in handling over 1000 arbitration cases. She actively promotes the development and innovation of arbitration mechanism by establishing China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone Court of Arbitration and CAJAC Shanghai Center, promulgating Free Trade Arbitration Rules, and launching the international aviation arbitration mechanism etc. Ms. Wang is the member of the Shanghai Law Society Arbitration Law Research Association and Aviation Law Research Association and serves as part-time graduate tutors in Fudan University, East China University of Political Science and Law etc.

As the head of BritCham Shanghai, Stuart’s ambition is to drive the continued support and growth of the chamber in line with the members’ needs and evolving business and political environment both in China and at home. Examples of these activities include Government to business round tables, regional East China activities and leading the chamber flagship events including the new British Day, the annual ESG Summit & Awards and the British Business Awards.

Stuart brings to his position over 20 years of UK & international leadership experience covering trade & investment, operations, & project-based experience in world-leading hospitality corporations, as an entrepreneur and in Government. Prior to taking on this role, Stuart was head of Agriculture, food & drink, trade and investment for the UK Department for International Trade. His China journey started in 2010, moving to Dubai to join the Shangri-la, Pudong as Assistant Director of Food & Beverage during the World Expo followed by several years as an entrepreneur, starting and operating the Tap House bar & restaurant group.

Stuart holds a Degree in International marketing and communications from Staffordshire University in England and is an active member of many community groups including Heart 2 Heart and lives in Shanghai with his wife Emily, daughter Lilli & two dogs.

Sophie took up her position as Economics Consul at the British Consulate General Shanghai in October 2022. In her role, Sophie is responsible helping UK Government ministers and senior officials understand how East China’s (covering Shanghai, Anhui, Jiangsu and Zhejiang) economic developments impact the UK. She joined the British Civil Service in July 2017 at the Cabinet Office before moving into the then Department of International Trade in November 2018. Her roles have covered UK government pandemic flu planning and the Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy programme in London.

Prior to joining the Civil Service, she studied post graduate law after which she went to work in a justice charity, finally joining a Think Tank specialising in foreign policy and security. Sophie has also worked in the private sector for Barclays.

Xiaohong Sun, Senior Engineer, Master of Engineering, Secretary-General of Automotive Internationalization Professional Committee of China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products. He engaged in long-term coordination and research between automotive industries and government issues, addressing policy, compliance, and strategic issues in automotive foreign trade, and supporting the development of China’s automotive import and export industry.

Dr. iur. Dr. phil. Adolf PETER, LL.M., MA, CSE is Professor at the Shanghai University of Political Science and Law (SHUPL), Consultant at the international law firm Fieldfisher (Vienna Office) and Co-Chair of the Legal & Compliance Committee of the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai focusing on international commercial arbitration, the enforcement of ESG standards in international supply chains and EU law. A selection panel established by the European Commission found Dr. Peter suitable for appointment for the position of Arbitrator and Trade and Sustainable Development Expert in bilateral disputes under the EU’s trade agreements with third countries.
In his capacity as Certified Supervisory Expert recognized by the Austrian Economic Chambers (WKO) he holds specialized one-day seminars for the WKO in Vienna directed at supervisory board members of companies.
Dr. Peter is the author of numerous arbitration- and ESG-related publications in international law journals and the book “CSR and Codes of Business Ethics in the USA, Austria (EU) and China and their Enforcement in International Supply Chain Arbitrations” (ISBN: 978-981-33-6072-3).
He is listed as arbitrator in 10 international arbitration institutions, including the Shanghai International Arbitration Center (SHIAC), the Vienna International Arbitral Centre (VIAC), the China Maritime Arbitration Commission (CMAC), the Shanghai Arbitration Commission (SHAC), the Singapore International Arbitration Center (SIAC Reserve Panel), the Thailand Arbitration Center (THAC), etc.

Guang Yang, Doctor of Law, Deputy Secretary General of Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (Shanghai International Arbitration Center). She has extensive work experience in international organizations, government agencies, Chinese embassies abroad, and financial institutions. She has participated in important international treaty negotiations, international commercial legislation, and negotiations on international economic and trade rules. Her research and practices involve fields such as international trade law, commercial arbitration, investment arbitration, e-commerce law, intellectual property law, and competition law.
